On
October 27, 2008 nearly 400 business and community leaders
served as a Principal For A
Day. They worked side by side with a principal at one
of the many Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD)
schools. They asked every question they ever wanted to ask, from the budget
to student testing, from playground equipment to discipline,
from teaching methods to subject matter expectations…the
principal’s office was all theirs for one day!
Leading
the charge this year during Principal For A Day 2008 was our
Superintendent
For A Day, Eloy Ortiz Oakley, Superintendent-President, Long
Beach City College, who job-shadowed our Superintendent of Schools,
Chris Steinhauser. Oakley keynoted the Debriefing
Reception.
Next year,
we urge you to participate in this fascinating
adventure, shadowing principals, visiting classrooms,
interacting with students, and eating cafeteria food. The event allows our educators to learn what is important to the
public, and the community learns first-hand how much we
expect from teachers and students.
We look
forward to seeing you as a Principal For A Day 2009 in one of
America’s Best Urban Schools for an experience you will
never forget.
